← All resourcesWhat recruiters look for first
A account executive resume gets ranked in seconds. These are the five signals a recruiter (and an LLM-ranked ATS) checks before deciding whether to keep reading.
- Quota attainment for each role ("125% of $1.2M quota")
- Deal size range and median
- Sales motion named (inbound, outbound, hybrid; PLG, SLG)
- Industry / segment named (SMB, mid-market, enterprise)
- President's club / top performer recognition if applicable
Bullet patterns that work
Every strong account executive bullet follows the same shape: action verb → what you built → who it was for → a number that proves the impact. Use these patterns as a scaffold, not a script.
Pattern
Closed [N] deals worth [$ amount] at [N%] of quota in [period]Example
Closed 28 deals worth $2.4M ARR at 142% of quota over 4 quarters as the top mid-market AE
Pattern
Drove [outbound motion / pipeline source] generating [pipeline value]Example
Drove an outbound prospecting motion that generated $1.1M in self-sourced pipeline over 2 quarters
Pattern
Closed [strategic deal] worth [$ amount] against [competitor]Example
Closed a strategic 7-figure deal against a Salesforce-incumbent customer through a 5-month multi-thread enterprise sale
Skills section — what to keep
Recruiters skim skills sections for the keywords the JD mentioned by name. Lead with the hard skills, group your tools, and keep soft skills short.
Hard skills
- Outbound prospecting
- Discovery calls
- Demos
- Negotiation
- Multi-thread enterprise sales
- Forecasting
Tools
- Salesforce
- HubSpot
- Outreach
- Salesloft
- Gong
- Clari
- ZoomInfo
- LinkedIn Sales Navigator
Soft skills
- Customer empathy
- Negotiation
- Coaching SDRs
Pitfalls that get account executives filtered
- Skipping quota attainment — it's the single most-asked-for number
- Listing tools instead of deals
- Calling yourself AE without naming the segment
- Vague "exceeded targets" without a percentage
Frequently asked
Do I need to share my W-2?
No, not on the resume. Recruiters may ask later. On the resume, quota and attainment are the right level of detail.
How important is industry experience?
Very for vertical SaaS (healthcare, fintech, legal). Less so for horizontal SaaS where motion + segment matter more.
Should I list specific logos?
Yes for marquee accounts you actually closed and have permission to mention. Recruiters and hiring managers read logos as credibility.
